But he has bounced back by finding love with 28-year-old girlfriend Jahira Dar, who he is plans to propose to soon.
Millan, who once starred and hosted on National Geographic’s Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan until the show’s series finale in September, tried taking his own life by way of a drug overdose.
“I have always been honest with my fans, which means being open about any struggles I have had along the way,” said Millan. “It was important for me to explain all the aspects that have led to my new chapter. Although it was a dark moment for me, it showed me that I still needed to be here and I have a lot more to do.
“My love life has also moved on and I’m dating a wonderful woman named Jahira—both she and Calvin accompanied me to the Annual Impact Awards Gala where I was recognized for Outstanding Reality Show portraying positive images of Hispanics in the media.
The suicide attempt came after the death of his beloved dog, Daddy, who died of cancer at the age of 16. The following month, Millan’s wife asked for a divorce after 16 years of marriage.
But two years later, the TV personality is moving forward with life, filling Daddy’s old collar with a new furry friend and finding a new mate in Jahira Dar, who has moved in with Millan and his two young sons.
